Pet Immersion Alarm:Alerts you if your pet falls in the pool or off the boat.Your dog or cat may be able to swim, but will drown within minutes if not trained to get out of a pool. Over 5,000 dogs drown each year in backyard pools. YOU CAN USE YOUR OWN WATERPROOF COLLARS or your existing pet collar.
A standard pet immersion alarm system consists of:
1. One or more Turtles of the same colour which includes a Velcro Adaptor to securely attach Turtle to any pet collar, and “baby Turtle” coding plug for Base Station (colors are: Green,Blue,Yellow,Red or Purple)
2. A Standard Base Station
This unit is so good it is used for children and seniors also. In a study conducted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to find out how child drowning incidents occur it stated that SUPERVISION CAN AND DOES FAIL. The study staes that for every child who drowns, four suffer disabling brain damage. Drowning is the number one cause of death for children under five in Florida, Arizona, and California with a ranking of number two for over a dozen other states. At least 36 children drowned or nearly drowned in Johannesburg, South Africa, in a 3 month period from October to December 2006.
The Safety Turtle personal immersion alarm is an effective “last line of defence” to protect your child against water accidents. An alarm sounds at the base station the instant he or she falls or ventures into the water. The Safety Turtle wireless gate alarm extends this protection to the perimeter pool fence by reinforcing its weakest link – the gate.
One Base Station supports any number of Turtle wristbands and gate alarm sensor(s) of the same color.
Unlike other pool alarms, Safety Turtle works with any water hazard: pool, hot tub, pond, river/lake, although some limitations apply to use with salt water.
No installation is required.
Safety Turtle is the only security system that provides uninterrupted protection of a toddler, at home and away.
Children love wearing "the Turtle".
Safety Turtle's unique portability allows for protection away from home
Safety Turtle® is a family of Wireless Alert products designed to enhance security in the home and in the workplace. All Safety Turtle products satisfy the high performance, reliability and operational simplicity requirements of discriminating safety equipment users.
Originally introduced in 1998 as a “last layer of protection” for young children near water, the Safety Turtle personal immersion alarm has been adapted for pets, patients doing water physiotherapy, for workers near water hazards, to automatically alert lifeguard rescues, and as a “wireless lanyard” www.powerboatsafety.com to prevent propeller injury with falls overboard. The Safety Turtle wireless gate alarm introduced in 2006 satisfies the need of home owners [and the hospitality sector] to remotely monitor pool and property fence gates.
A Safety Turtle Wireless Alert system consists of one or more Base Station receivers and an unlimited number of radio sensors. The sensors may be of different types, immersion, gate, panic, but must be the same color to work with the same Base Station. Any sensor type can initiate alarming at the Base Station.
Base Stations :BASIC INFORMATION
The Base Station is the component of the Safety Turtle wireless alert system which sounds the alarm. All Safety Turtle wireless systems require at least one Base Station. Safety Turtle sensors have no audible or visual outputs, so serve no useful function without a Base Station. There is no limit to the number of sensors / sensor types of the same color that can work with one Base Station. Additional Base Station(s) spaced apart:increase the total sensor coverage area, and/or expand the area of alarm audibility. In the first case, Base Stations alarm in unison only when the sensor is activated where coverage overlaps. In the second case, the coverage areas are nominally the same and the Base Stations are intended to alarm in unison.
There are two models of Base Station, Standard and Integrator.
Common features include:
1. NOT weather proof - see weatherproof carrying bag
2. Requires AC or external 12V battery input – see battery pack
3. Requires a baby Turtle plug of matching color that comes with Safety Turtle sensor
4. One button and two LEDs control and indicate status of Base Station.
5. Base Station set to "ACTIVE" flashes and alarms @ 110 decibels until acknowledged or for 30 minutes.
6. Base Station set to "TEST" beeps slowly if sensor battery is healthy and while sensor signal is received.
7.Volume is adjustable in "TEST" but not in "ACTIVE".
8. Rapid beeping occurs in "FAULT". The cause of the fault is indicated by LEDs.
Only the Integrator Base Station has the following additional feature:
1. Audio jack outputs alarm condition [contact closure]
2. An Integrator Base Station is always required in a Commercial / Extended Range System.
The coverage radius of the Base Station [both Standard and Integrator types] is limited by its [internal] antenna. Longer range Base Stations with external antennas are available as customized items:
Omni directional whip antenna provides 1,300 ft. [400 m.] coverage in all directions
Flat plate antenna provides 4,000 ft. [1,200 m.] coverage over 100 degree beamwidth
Sensors
Safety Turtle personal immersion sensors have the following properties:
1. Waterproof and play tolerant
2. Non-replaceable battery lasts 3 – 4 years
3. 150 - 200 ft. [45 - 60 m.] range from Base Station
Restrictions apply to use in salt water - see Safety Turtle and Salt Water:Immersion Alarm and Salt Water
Natural fresh water does not greatly impede the signal radiating from an immersed Turtle. No matter how fast a Turtle descends in the water, it will always alarm on the way down.
An increase in salt concentration increases water’s conductivity, making propagation of a radio wave more difficult. This has the effect of reducing “depth coverage”, the depth below which a Base Station cannot decipher the signal transmitted by an immersed Turtle.
Note: Salt does NOT affect the operation of the electronics or a Turtle’s operating life.
For a second dog you will need to add the turtle unit and a collar to the basic unit package.
Commercial/Extended Range System
A Commercial/Extended Range System consists of an Integrator Base Station, one or more Safety Turtle sensors and a Terrapin supplied Secondary Alarm. Terrapin sells two Secondary Alarms models, one connected by an audio cable to its Integrator Base Station, the other by a radio link:
1. Wired Secondary Alarm
2. NOT weather proof
3. Supports single Integrator Base Station
4. Up to 1,000 ft. [300 m.] separation
5. 120 decibels
6. No visual indicators
7. Requires AC or external 12V battery input
Wireless Secondary Alarm includes Transmitter with audio plug
1. NOT weather proof
2. Supports 4 Integrator Base Stations
3. Up to 1,500 ft. [450m.] separation
4. 120 decibels
LEDs display which Transmitter initiated alarm, thereby localizing
LEDs display supervisory and low battery status of individual Transmitters
Requires AC or external 12V battery input

Battery operates for 9 hours on a full charge
Base Station provides a low battery warning
Battery can power the Base Station while it is being charged
Base Station AC wall adaptor or 12V Cigarette Lighter Adaptor accessory is used to charge Battery
Battery can power Base Station while being charged to provide uninterrupted power supply [UPS]
Turtle Sock -Minimizes possibility of false alarming. Recommended for:
Pets – play in rainy climates, wet grass or heavy rain, particularly for long haired dogs
12V Cigarette Lighter Adaptor-Get a car/boat charger for your alarm
AC Adaptor =Alternate AC wall adaptors for Base Station:
120 volt North American
240 volt Europlug [also substitutes for South Africa type]
240 volt UK
240 volt Australia
Proper Use:
Observe the following:
Your sensors must all be of the same color as the Baby Turtle plug inserted in the Base Station.
Use only the Terrapin AC adapter provided, plugged into a matching electrical outlet. Terrapin adaptors operate at one AC voltage only.
Keep Base Station out of the rain and off the ground, unless using weatherproof carrying bag accessory.
Do not locate the Base Station where it can accidentally be unplugged or power from the outlet switched off. The Base Station will not sound the alarm if not plugged in to a live AC outlet.
Follow the Initial Setup and Testing instructions in the User Guide to verify wireless alarm functions at this location.
Always test with amber light on [in “Test Mode”] to confirm sensor battery is not getting low.
Attach the Turtle adapter securely to your pet's special collar, so it cannot slip over the hand. Dots on buckle must align exactly.
Remove the Turtle wristband while bathing your pet or playing with your pet in the pool. Don’t forget to put the turtle back on. Never unplug the Base Station.
Do not let pet “play” with Turtle when not wearing.
Read, retain and follow Instructions in User Guide.
Properly dispose of, do not sell or give away, used Turtles.
Use with Sea Water
The Turtle will not alarm reliably on entry in the water. To work reliably, the Turtle must thereafter break or nearly break the surface of the water.
Boating – Alarming is not 100 % reliable unless the subject is also wearing a life jacket.
Attach Turtle to rear shoulder strap [above the buoyancy line] using Velcro Adaptor, orpet special collar.
Shoreline – While not 100% reliable in all cases, Safety Turtle is effective with a graduated beach. Even if the pet is knocked down by a breaker, alarming will occur when the breaker recedes.
Attach Turtle to special collar or secure strap of a properly secured life vest..
Use with Salt Chlorinated Pools
Do you have a salt chlorinated pool? If you aren’t sure, consult your pool contractor. If you do have a salt chlorinated pool, read the following:
The salt concentration of chloride salt pools and spas is typically 2,400 to 3,600 ppm, but this varies in practice. The concentration of bromide salt pools and spas is about half this. The salt concentration of non-salt chlorinated pools and spas, including pools using ozonators, varies from 50 parts per million [ppm] to several hundred ppm.
For succesful set up with a chloride salt pool, the Base Station may have to be less than 50 ft. [15 m.] from the pool. Above a 4000 ppm salt concentration, the Base Station may have to be pool side. Consider a Commercial/Extended Range System that alarms at both the pool and in the residence.
Using Immersion Alarm on Boats:Children, adults, dogs and cats are all potential "Man Overboard" (MOB) accident victims. A Safety Turtle MOB alarm instantly alerts others on board. The Turtle should be securely attached to the back of an approved life jacket, above the buoyancy line, using the Velcro Adaptor. Alarming will still occur within a few seconds if the Turtle is alternately worn on the wrist. This has the advantage that a child continues wearing the Turtle below deck, subject to the following Warnings:
Warnings:
For information on human and pet use in salt water, see Safety Turtle and Salt Water
Locating and rescuing a subject not wearing a life jacket is difficult, and often fails, resulting in drowning. A Safety Turtle does NOT substitute for an approved life jacket.
This is no substitute for keen observation of your pets.
Placement of the Base station on a Boat:
Locate the Base Station above the boat's hull, normally in the cockpit. Use Terrapin's weatherproof carrying bag or equivalent to protect the Base Station from rain or spray. Test coverage in accordance with User Guide. Immerse Turtle at fore, aft, port and starboard locations. For complete testing, troll Turtle completely around the boat.
Reminder: Stern coverage is most important when the boat is in motion.
Confirm audibility of Base Station alarm throughout boat, with its motor running. If using Terrapin's Turtle Power battery pack, confirm audibility of rapid fault mode beeping, indicating low battery. Remove baby Turtle from Base Station to initiate fault mode beeping. If coverage or audibility is limited, consider use of a second Base Station or [wired or wireless] dual alarming Commercial / Extended Range System.
Notes:
If 12V battery power is conveniently accessible through a cigarette lighter plug, use Safety Turtle's Cigarette Lighter Adaptor accessory rather than AC adaptor and an inverter. At 75 milliamps, the direct draw of Base Station on a boat's battery is negligible.
The Turtle Power battery pack accessory, in series, provides uninterrupted backup to the boat’s power supply.

Testamomials:
"Recently, my younger dog, Bella, fell in the hot tub and thanks to the turtle she is alive. She can swim but she couldn't find her way out. Thanks turtle people.”Dan Show Sherbondy, Executive Producer/Host, THE DAN SHOW: VEGAS
My Westie and I moved into a new home with a pool. I had purchased the Safety Turtle after a recommendation from a friend who also had a dog and a pool. After we were settled, I had a man who owned a cleaning company come to clean the house. While the man was vacuuming (with headphones on) he heard a loud siren and began to investigate. He walked outside to the porch and found my Westie bobbing up and down in the pool. He quickly grabbed her and saved her life! Come to find out, a snake was on the porch and when the Westie investigated the snake had reared up and she jumped back....right in the pool! Had it not been for the Safety Turtle my little dog would be in puppy heaven! Thanks...Sherry Ft Meyers FL
"Just wanted you top know that my Turtle alarm arrived at 10:00 am and I immediately set it up. At 10:40 the alarm went off and sure enough the dog had fallen in the pool - he was out when I reached him, but I am so glad I will be able to reach him fast enough if he is unable to reach the stairs. Thank you for taking care of this so quickly - although my heart is still beating very fast, I feel better knowing he is safer." Ramsey, NJ
